Thames Valley Partnership

Chilton's Location
We start our Wednesday in Chilton at the Thames Valley Partnership, who work in partnership with the statutory, private and volunteer sectors to provide long-term sustainable solutions to the problems of crime and social exclusion and in the process safer and stronger communities.

Their works purpose is to protect victims and re-integrate offenders but they also provide programmes for:
  • families of offenders
  • work in the field of domestic abuse
  • support for victims
  • restorative justice
  • community cohesion
  • mental health issues
  • early interventions and initiatives around young people
  • arts related prrgrammes
One of the core approaches in trying to achieve the safer and stronger communities that Thames Valley Partnership is working towards, is through the arts.

Thames Valley Polive has found that working with 'The Arts', whether it is painting or dance, can provide a positive and empowering experience for those with difficult, impoverished or traumatised lives. Giving them a voice that can so often go unnoticed.

The use of the arts and creativity is one of Thames Valley Partnership's most successful methods of intervention, especially when working with young people.

Rather than 'picking up the pieces later on', the Partnership's early intervention programme works with families and individuals who are vulnerable to being caught up with crime or anti-sociable behaviour later on.

By introducing these young people to principles of citizenship and responsibility Thames Valley Partnership hopes to reinforce the message that children and young people have an active part to play in looking after each other and taking responsibility.
