Back to School at Westcott

Westcott's Location
This morning (Thursday) our journey starts in the village of Westcott at their local school.

In a beautiful setting by the church, the village school has recently been granted money by the Bucks Community Foundation to embark on a project called a 'Forest School'.

On a small piece of land located along the side of the Church, the school, along with the help of many parents, have cleared the sit so it may be used for outdoor lessons and activities.

Here the children of the school will be able to interact with nature and take what they have learnt in the classroom into the real world.

And its not all plants and photosynthesis either. There is a small pond where they are hoping frogs and other water born creatures will reside. And under the careful supervision of a specially trained teacher the children will also be taught useful life skills like how to build a camp fire or wield a small knife or axe safely.

It's a fantastic scheme that gets children out of the classroom creating an alternative way of teaching that is fun for everyone.
