Going back to nature with Growing People at The Urban Farm

Wolverton's Location
From Greenleys we will make the very short journey to The Urban Farm, based in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. Born from the idea of two local groups, Food Train and MK Christian Foundation, they both wanted to create an urban space that could focus on growing fresh, wholesome fruit and vegetables for local consumption, through innovative, environmentally sensitive growing methods.

From one side, Food Train had been considering ways in increasing the supply of locally produced food and in particular how urban spaces in Milton Keynes might be used to achieve this.

From the other side, Christian Foundation had for many years been exploring how food impacts on the lives of individuals and communities. They wanted to reconnect people to the source of food as well as create a possible career starting point for you people.

It's fantastic that this is all happening
within a busy and urban built area like Milton Keynes
This Urban Farm has now developed into Growing People, a horticultural enterprise that works with people from all sectors of the community across Milton Keynes.

Growing People consists of a number of volunteers and trainees of varying ages and backgrounds, who come to work on the farm. The main purpose of Growing People is to develop the personel skills of each trainee, with benefits of employment, self-confidence, social skills, general life skills and personal development as a whole.

Like us, the have a blog run by volunteers, which lets people know what is happening on the farm on a weekly bases and also gives great recipes and ideas on what to do with your vegetables.
